SALARY RANGE:     $1930.63– 2261.99 bi-weekly

Objective/Function of Position

 

The Communications Assistant will assist the Director and Staff in Communications and Research to fulfill their duties by maintaining communications resources and providing administrative, website, correspondence, and media monitoring support.

 

Duties

 

  • Update and maintain caucus website and social media accounts, including support for MLA websites.
  • Assist communications staff and MLAs in preparing, sending, and monitoring correspondence with stakeholders and individuals.
  • Assist with information retrieval requests when required such as Hansard, and media excerpts, and obtaining oral or written information from outside sources.
  • Coordinate MLA advertising opportunities and assist in the production of advertisements and other caucus publications.
  • Word processing, data entry and list management.
  • Update and maintain databases, including a photo database.
  • Major and regional media tracking and reporting.
  • Proofread material.
  • Maintain central filing records.
  • Maintain transitory working files and tracking documents.
  • Maintain schedules, make travel arrangements, and arrange meetings.
  • File and retrieve information in communications records (manual & electronic).
  • Distribute materials as required by the Director, MLAs and caucus services staff.
  • Collect and monitor mail for absent communications staff.
  • Photocopy, fax and electronically scan documents.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

 

  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated filing and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency at keyboarding and use of standard computer applications including Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, and the Internet.
  • Ability and willingness to be a team member and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of individuals.
  • Ability to organize and manage independently one’s own workload while taking into consideration changing priorities, tight deadlines, volume of work and available resources.
  • Experience maintaining websites and managing social media tools
  • Experience with constituent resource management software would be an asset
  • Experience working with Adobe Photoshop and InDesign would be an asset.
  • General knowledge of BC NDP policy and BC’s governing structures.

 

 

This is a Union position governed by a collective agreement with the BCGEU. Note that the BCGEU

member who has vacated this position has a right under the collective agreement to return to this position

on or before Dec 7, 2022  if they find their new role unsatisfactory.
